I picked this book up on the recommendation of a friend, who raved about it for a good few days. I decided to give it a go based on their recommendation, but wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did.
From the first chapter I was gripped and did have a little chuckle about "Colin Pearce must die", reminding me of "John Tucker must die". However, this book didn't have the comedic value of John Tucker, instead tackling some very serious topics around growing up, friendship and sexual assault.
The characters in this book were each likeable or relatable in their own way and I found myself recognising them within other people I encountered during my own highschool experience. The way in which the trauma within this book was dealt with was done in a sensitive yet raw way, which I feel is perfect for the reader, particularly young adults. I also felt it was eye-opening to how this particular experience can impact someone and others around them.
I felt that the modern references made it more relatable to current young adults, and hopefully this shouldn't detract from young adults in the future from reading this.
The additional secrets that are revealed throughout the book were well written and weaved in to the plot effortlessly.
I too have raved about this book for days and would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone.
