I have to say I hated the prologue, which was 100% fantasy world with unpronounceable names and mythical beings. However, once we entered the real world in Chapter 1 it improved a great deal.
Rose is being bullied at school, but is picked out by Soic an ice giant as someone who can hold the magical stone. This juxtaposition between the fantasy world and the real world was done well, but the book could go really well or really badly depending on how the author works it.
