The first section of this book left a great first impression, drawing me into the story and making me want to read more. The prologue read like a somewhat complicated but atmospheric high fantasy based on elements of Irish mythology, which crosses over into the present day in the first chapters where we meet Rose, the main female character, who is clearly struggling, lonely and unhappy, particularly at school.

By the end of this first section the ice giant from the prologue and Rose have briefly met, with a magical stone passing between them. One gets the sense that this stone will change Rose's life forever and I would love to read more as her adventure unfolds. It will be interesting to see how the magic of the prologue plays out in the modern world, particularly in regards to the witch who is seeking the stone, as well as the silver road itself. Potentially a magical and evocative read.
