I was so pleased to receive a copy of “The Silver Road” – first off, I loved the front cover, I thought it was really colourful and vibrant and would certainly appeal to the books target audience. I would say this is probably suitable for 11–12-year-olds upwards, some of the content is perhaps going to be a bit frightening for any younger readers.
I loved the elements of Irish mythology woven into the story and it was full of references to myths I had never heard of but there was a helpful guide at the back as well as vocabulary/pronunciation guides. The book is fast-paced, I devoured it within a day, and the descriptions are wonderful and just pitched perfectly. The only thing I was slightly disappointed about was I would have loved to have had more details about the ice giants, but I wont go any further in case I spill any spoilers. I found the characters charming and likeable and all of them developed well within the storyline. There weren’t too many superfluous secondary characters either, and I engaged with all of them. I would love to see this adapted into a movie or an animation as I really felt I could picture the scenes and they would definitely lend themselves to being brought to life on screen.
