They say that things often happen for a reason and that was very true for a young girl named Rose who is the main character in this story. Before the story starts, Rose has gone through a lot of changes in her life. For a start, her beloved grandmother died and Rose really misses her .
Then Rose had to change schools because she won a scholarship and now she goes to a local grammar school but she misses her old friends. She has also come to the attention of the class bully who is always picking on her. The bully comes from a wealthy family and her father is well respected in the area. This is why the bullying goes unpunished. It is while Rose is trying to avoid the bully after school that she walks home on a different route. This new way home takes her down a road where she finds a sweetshop. She makes friends with the elderly owners of this shop because they make her think of her grandmother.
Then one night when Rose cannot sleep , she notices that there are some strange noises outside. She goes out to see what is going on . What she finds outside will change her life forever.
