Lelle dropped his daughter off at a bus stop along the main road, and she never reached her destination or was seen again.

Lelle's world falls apart, his wife blames him for not staying to make sure she got on the bus and can't forgive him so she leaves him and he spends his days brooding and searching.

He spends hours and hours driving along The Silver Road which is where the bus stop was located, a main road in an isolated area in Northern Sweden. He chain smokes and is relentless in his task of driving and looking.

In the days of the midnight sun in the summer he drives along The Silver Road all night to the point of exhaustion and desperation.

We encounter with him many strange people who inhabit the woods and also learn of a 17 year old girl, Meya, who bears a striking resemblance to Lelle's missing daughter and she has her own story to tell too.

I found this an extremely involving read. A sense of foreboding runs through the pages and Lelle's pain shouts out from every page. One which will stay with you for a very long time after it has been read.
