If I have to describe this book with two words it will be – dark and haunting!
Lelle’s daughter disappeared. Everyone blamed him because he is the last one to see her alive. He dropped her at the bus station on the Silver road that summer morning and didn’t wait for the bus to come. He blames himself too. The police came to a dead-end, nobody heard anything. It’s like she vanished, dissolved in the crisp Sweden air. His daughter’s disappearance drives Lelle crazy. He drives up and down the Silver road during the bright summer nights. He takes no rest using the White Nights as his advantages in searching every property in the area with the hope that somewhere there he may find his Lina.

On the other side of the story is Meja. She is more mother to her own mother than her mother is to her. She is 17 but already changed more than 30 addresses. When her mom Silje met a man online they crossed the whole country and moved in again. But moving again gives her hopes for a better life and a new start. In this small new town, she found Carl-Johan. In him and his family, she sees her chance to escape from her mental mom Silje and have a better future. She is so fed up with her mom’s constant drinking and moving from one man to another, so when Carl-Johan asks she agrees to move with him and his family. Lelle and Meja paths crossed when the school year begins and Meja ended up in Lalle class. How their lives will intertwine?
Just when autumn sneaks in and there will be no more lights in the night so Lelle can keep on with his searches, another girl disappears. And Lelle makes finding her his personal responsibility. Why? Not only because she is the same age as his Lina, but because she looks like just like her. This can’t be a coincidence! The two disappearances are connected and he can’t be more sure about this.
But who is this guy who keeps the girls in this dark, humid room with no windows and fuggy air? Are they under the ground or just the room is well isolated?
The Silver road is written masterfully. The words take you in Lelle’s car, sitting next to him there is no chance not to enjoy this chilly ride. A story that gave me creeps and shows to what isolated life can lead. But mainly this is a story about father love and the length Lelle is willing to go to save his family.
