First off, much praise to the translator of this Swedish novel to English. They done a wonderful job and this adds to the enjoyment of what is an excellent read. The story of a divorced father trying to locate his missing teenage daughter who disappeared when he left her at a bus stop in a remote part of Sweden on the Silver Road. The story centres on his nightly searches of this road and its many abandoned houses and outhouses. It deals with the guilt that the central character Lelle faces as he tries in vain to locate his daughter. The other main character is another teenager Meja who arrives in this part of the country with her dysfunctional mother and falls for a local boy and begins a relationship with him. As the story evolves Lelle and Meja are drawn together as the book reaches a harrowing climax. This is a great read and builds up to a finish that is filled with sadness but also with hope. Would highly recommend this book – you will not be disappointed.
