The cover of this book is beautiful and very descriptive of what's inside. The silver road snaking through a dark forest - it has echoes of Will Dean's Dark Pines.
A moody, dark Swedish forest dotted with small villages, remote properties and a very quirky cast of characters.
We mostly follow Lelle who is driving the silver road every night searching for his missing daughter, Lina. She vanished at the bus stop three years ago but he's convinced that she's still out there somewhere and is scouring the local area inch by inch.
Meanwhile Meja has moved into the area with her troubled mother, Silje. They've taken up residence with Torbjorn - known locally as Pornbjorn - a loner with a past.
Meja feels like a fish out of water but responsible for her mum. When she meets Carl-Johan she quickly falls for him - plus his family who, whilst having a local reputation as being a bit weird, seem stable and supportive.
This book feels dark and creepy and you constantly feel like something/someone is ready to surprise you - you just don't know what to expect and when!
A real page turner.
