Firstly, the cover of this novel is stunning. I personally love hardback books that are printed directly onto the book rather than a dust jacket as I find dust jackets are easily ripped or worn, plus the actual design is lovely too, especially so of the little woman in red to indicate both Meja's isolation but also that of Lelle's lost daughter Lina.
The issue I have with this book is that it doesn't have chapters. I like a book to have chapters personally and this might not be the norm in Sweden, if so that's fine but it would have made more sense, from a readers point of view if it did have chapters, especially in the beginning as we're basically following both Lelle and Meja, switching between them and it frustrated me that it wasn't made clearer.
The setting of the story is in Northern Sweden with it's dark and isolated forests, easy to go missing in. Stina Jackson's writing style has this almost sad twinge within it which is so fitting to this novel, a must read for anyone who is into Scandinavian crime novels.
Although all opinions in this review are my own, I would like to thank Corvus and Readers First for an advance copy.
