I wasn't sure about this book at first, historical dramas aren't a genre read much. I was glad of the prologue as it helped orientate myself to the Thirty years war which i didn't know much about.
The character list alarmed me a bit as I thought I would spend the whole book flicking back to fin out who characters were, but in fact as each chapter deal with a separate character (in the beginning anyway) I found I got to know them a I went along and was gripped with each of their stories.
So pleased there i going to be 3 books in the series.
