As a huge fan of historical fiction, this ticks an awful lot of boxes for me. It's set in a period of history that I don't know a lot about but would like to understand more. It has real sense of period atmosphere and a range of interesting sounding characters, not all of whom are probably that nice, plus a hint of mystery. It would be a chunky read but sounds like it would be well worth the time investment.
