This was truely a saga that enveloped almost all of Europe during the thirty years war.
For history buffs the story was absolutely a feast of separate escapades for Jack Fiskardo, each one flawlessly intregrated together as he searched for his father's and mother's killer.
Such was the skill of J C Harvey in putting this collection of episodes seamlessly together that the reader was carried along on a thrilling journey across war torn Europe. At times I was left wanting the hero to fullfill his ambitions and found myself almost cheering him on.
A very clever story indeed that brought the seventeenth century to life in a coherant and believable way as it integrated fact with fiction.
As the author continues her journey across the sometimes desolated collection of countries it will be interesting to find out how Jack Fiskardo grows into manhood and increases his prowess as a warrior.
