The 30 year war is not a period of history I am familiar with and I don't read a lot of historical fiction so I was unsure how much I would enjoy The Silver Wolf, its is also a bit of a doorstopper at over 500 pages long which I always find a bit daunting but once I got into the book I really enjoyed it and was sucked into find out more about Jack's journey across Europe. The story is told in an engaging way creating readers compassion towards Jack and demonstrating his determination. There are a lot of characters in this book but there is also a list at the front of the book along with a map which I really enjoyed. For a debut novel The Silver Wolf is incredibly well written and the ending sets the book up perfectly for the second in the series which I know from many is now eagerly anticipated. I would definitely recommend to those who enjoy historical fiction!
