I enjoyed the writing of this book which at times showed great humour and at others the stark reality of war. However the book was over 500 pages and in all honesty I do not know why.

The silver wolf is the first in a trilogy but it has not inspired me to read the next books. If they were more concise I would be very tempted to read them but not if they are as drawn out as this one.

The story gives us the story of Jack/Jag and does so by telling us the middle then the beginning and then the end (which is the beginning of the next book really). The character of Jack is great and I was invested in him, as well as thoroughly enjoying some of the supporting characters too. I just feel there were chunks of the book that could easily have been edited out and nothing lost from the story.

It did feel like one very long prologue for the next book but didn’t leave me desperate to know what happens.
