I’ve enjoyed reading this extract of the book but I felt there was too much information given at the start so many characters listed it was a little off putting keep the map to give an idea of the setting of the story but list the names at the end for reference
The story start at the docks with the ship’s captain needing help unloading a valuable horse which has gotten spooked and is in danger of injury
This is when we are introduced to the main character in the book namely Jack a ragamuffin boy living on his wits who saves the day with his knowledge of horses aiding the safe disembarking of said horse.
One good deed deserves another and so when the sea captain find Jack gravely injured after a fight he takes him to the home of the trader he works for to get the child nursed back to health Jack is given a job at the stables and he befriends the housekeepers son Cornelius who is a sheltered boy who gets teased by local boys
We do not know the background of Jack but as an adult he is still fighting to live and we feel there is a great deal still to discover about his life and what happened to his family I would love to know what happened in the past and what happens to Jack in the future
