perhaps this is because it’s one of the few adult historical fictions i’ve read, but the tone of this novel almost made it feel like a classic. although great, this meant that it felt somewhat sluggish to get through at times.
i’m also not familiar with the 30 year war (the topic of this book) so it took a while for me to get the gist of everything that was going on. especially with the excess of characters, it was difficult to keep up at times.
the cover is stunning and very reminiscent of books similar to this genre so at least it will make a nice addition to my shelf! the colour scheme is immaculate, making up for the hefty length.
perhaps if the author writes another novel about a different time period i’ll enjoy it more, but until then i need to brush up on my history skills. also maybe a young adult style story would be more suitable for me? i look forward to what comes next for the author though completely
