Erma Bridges is already leading a life of imperfections, but when she gets shot by her colleague, her quiet existence is spiralled out of control. Looking for closure, she seeks answers by doing what she knows best- research. How far can the truth take you before it gets out of hand?
This book was really promising. I read a couple of chapters to establish my first impressions and I was pretty hooked from what I read. What made me mark it down was the last third of the book.
I loved the fact that the protagonist was a researcher in the arts rather than the sciences, it was a refreshing change for me. I also liked that she was fiercely independent yet still endured the same twists and turns that a protagonist with a complex support network would manage. I lost track of everything when the book suddenly switched to a choose your own adventure story. I didn’t have enough context beyond Erma’s sporadic dreams to link the fantasy to the reality, so it left me confused. It felt like the lines were almost too blurred. I think I would have preferred it if that section wasn’t included, as I don’t think it added to the plot. Saying that, I wouldn’t say it’s not worth reading, as it is a new way to read a thriller, and change is good, right?
