History tells us that after the first world war, there were a lot of young single women who were going to have to face the future without ever getting married. That may not seem like a problem to modern women who choose to live without a man, but in those days women were expected to get married and they needed to for security.
This story sounds like it has a very sad start with the main character losing her boyfriend in the war.
