A lovely written story about a girl named Belinda Layton who's fiancé has been killed during the war. She now faces a life of being a "Surplus Girl", a unmarried, unskilled woman with no other responsibility's . She wants to change her life and not be in mourning forever like her fiance's family expect her to be. She begins training so she can get office skills so she can get a better job instead of working in the mill. She then gets a job offer to work in a bookstore and everything changes from there.
I really enjoyed reading this, it was a lovely heartwarming story. I loved the writing style and the story flowed from page to page. The characters were all likable and added something to the story. I will definitely read more books by this author.
