Surplus Girls Is a saga of the period after the First World War.
It's Manchester in 1922 and Belinda Layton is a mill worker. She lost her fiancé in the war, with being faced with a life of having to fend for herself she wants wants to try and better herself by getting an office job. But at 20 she's considered too old for the office junior jobs which are the starting point in office work so she joins the brand new business school to improve her situation in life.
Widow Belinda has a difficult family background so she tried her best to always help them out. Her late fiancés family ate stricken in grief and determined to Moarn forever and include her in this.
Belinda is such a lovely character but Is forced to wear no colour and no way think about ever moving on from her late husband. Though she gets work in a book store which brings exciting experiences.
the characters in this book were very well described and from all walks of life. the story is well planned and written and really highlighted life in those times and made it come real. The story lines were of a positive nature despite the hard times
The characters were faced with. A great light story with a great twist . A nice thought provoking easy read.
