This is the first novel in a trilogy of books about the first world war. This is the first novel I have read by this author and not my usual genre but I found it interesting from a historical stand point. The novel explores what is was like for the women who were left behind during the war and their experiences of what they went through. It provides a lot of history as to what life was like for these women during this time and gives an insight into life after the war and focuses on Belinda and how she sadly loses her finance to the war and highlights how many other women sadly lost the chance to marry the men they loved due to the devastating events the war caused. It also highlights the struggle it was for women to get jobs during that era compared to how it is today.
