I always love books which hark back to the past to give a glimpse and an insight into the lives of every day people in years gone by...and this book is no exception. I follows the lives of a group of women, their work, their home life and their loves and losses. Belinda Layton is one of these girls. In Manchester in the 1920s she is coming to terms with the fact that her love was killed in the great war...but life for her still has to go on without the marriage she had hoped for. The family of her dead fiance are not happy to see her mover on with her life even though it has been four years since his death. Her own family just want to grab her hard earned Meagre wages each week...not such a happy life. But the author has plenty in store for Belinda.
