The world is moving on for many people after the end of the great war ,but not everyone senses it going to be better for them. The many young women left alone after their men folk never returned are facing a hard uncertain future having to fend for themselves. One such girl, a surplus girl, is Belinda whose fiance perished in the war shortly before they wed, is living with his mum and grandma . Four years after Ben's death this young woman like the other ladies of the house is still in mourning, wearing black from head to toe,but she is feeling the need to move on with her life . How to do this without upsetting Ben's family will be hard as will dealing with her own large and dysfunctional own family who rely on her for money and food from her work at the mill. Can Belinda blossom and fulfil her potential without upsetting her nearest and dearest. This is a challenge and will Belinda accept it?
