This is the story of Belinda, one of the many women who became known as surplus after WW1 stole nearly a whole generation of men.
It's always fascinating when you think that this event wasn't that far back in our history. It certainly worth reflecting on the terrible aftermath of this awful time as well. This is a family centred read, and follows the ups and downs in Belinda's life; she's a likeable character and you certainly root for her success and happiness.
This book also features a romantic story line, which I enjoyed, but it's not at all superficial. It's also a book about family, class, being true to yourself, the acceptance of change, money and welfare, conflict and employment gender issues.
If you enjoy a period read, then I'd definitely recommend giving this a go.
