Historical novels are not my go to genre when choosing a book to read. But reading that Jayne is a physician within the conflict to help both sides of the civil war got my interest. I liked the fact that the author wrote a note regarding The English Civil War, not having history as a topic of interest, it was good for me to have that initial lesson. On reading the extract I’ve become lost for words. The descriptive writing of the author made the brutality of the second chapter shocking to read. Although something that would have happened, reading it made it hard to believe. Making me want to read the rest to see what other mysteries and shocks are to come. The author has made me want to read her books and other historical novels.
