I’ve never read a historical fiction set in this era and this opening had me gripped. You get an i are sense of how hard the times must have been and how your fortunes can turn on a dime given who has the power. Especially hard for women of the time and for those who were dare I say physicians. This is a period of time that was tumultuous and particularly dark. I’d be interested to explore more of this novel.
