Historical fiction is one of my favourite genres and I particularly love books set during the 1600s. The first thing that struck me in the opening pages of this book is how good the writing is and how the scene is set perfectly for the story. From the very start we are straight into Jayne's story and I can't wait to follow this strong, intelligent and resilient woman's journey through the brutal civil war.
