Loved the writing, seemed very authentic of the time period.
The colour of the cover is in keeping with other historical fiction books of this kind, the deep blue and gold giving it a regal theme and incorporating the Swifts and the Harrier Hawk mentioned at the beginning of the book.
Set as far back as 1600's isn't normally the kind of book that would interest me, but the description caught my attention. Not ever having had much interest in our history I wasn't aware there'd ever been a civil war here. I read the whole sample and enjoyed the writing with lots of dialogue to keep me interested. The language used makes it feel authentic for those times and there's a good sense of the atmosphere of the town with the crowds baying for blood. A bit gory but certainly keeps you reading. I would definitely like to read more of this book.
