I loved Minette Walters crime novels but I think her historical novels are even better.
I find the English Civil War period fascinating . The strict religious New Army under Oliver Cromwell or the freer Royalists both equally determined to win.
The pitting of family against family is a terrible thing to contemplate.
The two main characters in this novel are both well drawn and likeable. A female physician was such a rare thing in the 17 th century. And a completely neutral one even more so.
Will and Jayne are such great characters and play off each other well. Will is such an enigmatic character. A servant who does not act like one who is a great support to both his mistress and Jayne
The code names Swift and Harrier are poignant and apt.
I highly recommend this book. Readers of intelligent well written historical fiction will love it. I would love to read more about the Swift and the Harrier.
