A female physician in this era is a daily battle and to involve herself in the war to such a close extent was breathtaking to read. She consistently surprises the men she interacts with, including her father and her three brothers.
I didn't know this period of history in much detail as it's not particularly taught as part of the curriculum. But it should be. William Harrier is an intriguing man and the easy friendship that blooms into love between the two had me smiling and at points crying. I will definitely be looking up Minette Walters other historical works!
