I wasn't sure i was going to like this one, I loved the cover and the blurb but was worried it was going to be a bit too romance driven.
There was a love story but the lead character was given so much more to her than just a love interest. This book had a lot of historical detail and was clearly well researched. The characters were will formed and the smaller subplots with the different families, battles and loyalties made this a very immersive book.
This book was a refreshing balance of battle detail and romance. Our heroine is a physician unable to call herself a doctor due to her security. The story tells of her work throughout the war and efforts to maintain neutrality whilst working amidst seiges and observing the bravery and cowardice of different factions.
This book offers commentary kn the religious and political views of the time as well as the gender politics and how this changes during tomes of conflict.
I rely enjoyed this book, I liked that it wrote of families with opposing political beliefs being able to maintain positive relationships and entertain open discussions...something which seems impossible these days.
