The Swift and The Harrier follows the life of Jayne Swift during the English Civil War. Jayne is a physician based in Dorset, who treats anyone in need of help - it doesn't matter if they are rich or poor, Royalists or Parliamentarians; Jayne will treat them the same.

We first meet Jayne in 1642 fighting her way through the crowded and unruly streets of Dorchester, trying to make her way to her cousin's house through the throng of people who have come to view the execution of some priests, and follow her through some significant events, like the Siege of Lyme Regis, until 1649.

Throughout the years Jayne witnesses first hand the horrors of war, as she selflessly lends her help to anyone who needs it. At each of these events, Jayne encounters the same man - William Harrier - whom she knows very little about, but who becomes a constant in all the chaos.

This was a well written and enjoyable historical read. Thoroughly recommended.
