I loved the cover of this book although I was slightly put off by the size of the book. I am not usually a fan of historical novels but this one is very readable and well written. I had not read this author before.
The book is set during the english civil war. The main character Jayne Swift is ahead of her time aa a woman practising medicine, strong and independent. There is suspicion around an educated lady given the time the story is set. At times I wondered if some of the characters were friends or enemies!
There is romance between Jayne and William Harrier, I found this to be a little cliched and predictable but it gave another pace for the novel.
I would recommend this book to those who enjoy romance and historical fiction. The author writes well and the characters are believable. I would definitely look for novels by the same author in the future.
