I always love Minette Walters' books, I have read most of hers but her earlier ones were all crime/thriller type books and this is a different kind of book for her.
This is historical fiction and based around the English Civil War, which is a period of time rife for adventure and interesting characters from all walks of life. Set in Dorset in 1642, our heroine is Jayne Swift who is a local physician. Her family are royalists, but everyone has to take sides in this conflict and King vs Parliament is a difficult balance to find.
Jayne meets a man called William Harrier (You can tell the meaning of the evocative title of the book now, being derived from their surnames!) who fascinates her, but she is not quite sure what his motives are in the conflict.
