Set during the English Civil War, The Swift and the Harrier was an enjoyable historical romance, a genre I'd typically avoid. Jayne Swift, the strong independent heroine, was an enjoyable main character and the book quickly draws you in with her perspective, but introduces several different characters. It helped me learn more about the civil war and the characters were interesting and likeable.

However, the book suffered from some pacing issues (especially in the middle) and I got a little bored towards the end, but it is a long book. The romance aspect between Jayne and William was also okay but seemed a little stale and cliche at times. I enjoyed the writing style of the author and her characterisation and I would look out for her books in the future.

Overall, this book was a solid read and I'd recommend it to people who like romance/adventure/historical fiction.
