I really have tried to finish this book, having put it aside and read something else then picked it up again on several occasions but have finally called a halt at page 143.
I am very disappointed as I enjoyed reading The Last Hours, one of her previous historical novels.
This story is set in Dorset during the English Civil War. The protagonists are Jane Swift, a physician from a Royalist family and William Harrier, a footman in a Parliamentarian household. The pace the book rather slow with not enough action to keep me interested although it was well written.
My mind kept wandering to other books I have read which were set around this time and about other female pharmacists and doctors whose skills were also not accredited.
I think this story lacked the humour and banter between the main characters which I needed to keep me interested in this overlong tome.
