My job is the only reason I didn't read this in one sitting
If I didn't have a full-time job, I would have read this book in one sitting. The story was compelling and historically interesting, with well-developed characters and clever little details.
The main character being a strong woman pushing boundaries was especially interesting, especially given the Civil War setting, and I enjoyed reading her story so much that I was disappointed when I finished the book; I genuinely picked the book back up once I'd finished it in the hopes that maybe there was an extra chapter that I hadn't read yet - I just want to read more!
I've never read a Minette Walters book before, but I'm absolutely going to read some of her other work purely because, even if the setting and characters are completely different, The Swift and the Harrier is so well-written and such an enjoyable read that I can state with certainty that I will also enjoy her other works.
