I really enjoyed reading this book. Having previously read some of the authors crime fiction I was looking forward to receiving this one which is an historical/romantic fiction novel.
Set in the 15th century during a violent civil war between the King and his Parliamentary troops, Jane Swift is a strong independent woman who has broken the rules expected by her family. She has trained as a physician and works at curing the ills and diseases of those in the community and is well respected by them. She meets a mysterious footman and their lives weave together as they meet throughout the war.
The author uses the civil war as a background to explore the relationships between Jane and her family and her friends, the characters are interesting, strong and believable, as are the descriptions of the battles and siege situations.
I really recommend this book, once started I could not put it down until finished.
