I went in reading this book with an open mind, but part of me still expected to not like it as I'm not usually drawn to historical books. This one took me by surprise. I actually really liked it. You can tell a lot of research has gone into writing this book and the narrative is both believable as well as nicely written.
It has also changed my mind on historical fiction and made me realise that maybe I was being a bit too snobby before, assuming these types of books are for older more boring people. This one was not.
One point to make however, you do need to actually read into some of the historical context.. which has been provided at the front of the book. As someone who isnt very cultured on historical events, I found this helpful and was intrigued enough to research into it in my spare time too. Four stars because the book is actually really long so I found it hard to keep up with sometimes but overall well written.
