A beautiful, enthralling love story under horrible, dire circumstances. Leaves you aching for the second book, and wondering about her side of the story. Their sacrifices and the life afterward were honestly incredible to read. A strong story that leaves you thinking.

The story is told in long chapters, but it's fast-paced. It is narrated in the third person by an omniscient narrator. Although it is a story that narrates a real and historical fact, the author narrates in a very simple but careful way, with magnificent descriptions, not only of places and characters but also of feelings. You can see, hear and feel everything that surrounded our protagonists, and believe me, sometimes they are devastating feelings.

aThe author has done a magnificent job because she has not only made us know their love story but she has also made us know everything that the characters lived in there and everything they saw before their eyes, harsh and horrifying scenes. It's a love story in the middle of a very complex horror like the Holocaust but she has found the balance. She was very lucky that it was Lale himself who told her the story and that helps a lot, but I still think she has done wonders in capturing it.

Lale was a brave, determined and loving man who helped as many people in there as he could. He did what he did to survive and the worst thing he did was have to work as a tattoo artist. What would you have done, if your life depended on it? And it put my heart in my mouth because as much as his life was on the line he always thought so much more about the others around him. Gita and Lale are examples of strength, just like many of those who lived through that hell and were able to survive. I have loved getting to know them and their precious and real love story. And those who did not survive were also strong and courageous even if they could not tell their stories.
