Based on a true story, I found that this book helped me to learn more about the difficulties of Auschwitz for all those who were imprisoned there. I found the story telling to capture my attention and draw to attention many important historical aspects, whilst also following the love story of Lale and Gita. It can be surprising to have a true story of love set against the horrific background of a concentration camp, but I think this makes it all the more captivating.

Heather Morris tells this in a way which both captures the scale of the atrocities committed in Auschwitz but also the fact that no amount of hate can prevent love from developing.

I learnt a lot from this book, both historical facts and about the strength of the human race. I would really recommend this book to anybody wanting to learn more about Auschwitz from a story perspective.
