I must start by saying have a thing for WW2 books.
This is a great book whih I recommend, next year is coming to the 75th anniversary of the end of WW2, so this is a great way to not forget what took place but also learn about the living conditions, as said it is based in true story.
What’s really likeable about it straight away is the truthfulness, the sincerity of it, and the way even through the toughest times, Lale and Gita found hope through love.
I must say, it is as any WW2 book quite painful to read and imagine the conditions, but all in all the relationships and the glimmers of hope make it bearable.
The history at the end of it to know what happenned to certain persons is interesting and quite releving.
