This book was everything I was hoping for in a historical fiction; whilst Lale's story is full of horror and the worst of atrocities, there is love and the strongest sense of hope laced into it's pages. I found Lale such a likeable protagonist and to find that his story was a true one left me rooting for him in any way I could. I was on the edge of my seat towards the second half of the book and really felt like I could both laugh and cry with him.

Heather Morris has translated his story beautifully onto paper in a compassionate but realist way; the story is breath-taking and I can't wait to read further publications from them. I devoured this book in a day. I found this book absolutely unputdownable and couldn't help but find time to read this. I have recommended this to absolutely everybody I know, and I can't remember the last time a book left me yearning for it like this one.
