I enjoyed reading this book and I found it very moving and emotional. The characters were likeable and very easy to sympathise with. The story kept me engrossed in the book as I just wanted to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next. Lale is a very likeable man and you just want to be by his side as he courageously fights to survive and stay true to himself through the most unimaginable suffering. He is forced to inflict the pain of tattooing numbers on all prisoners but still finds a way to do this whilst also showing compassion and care for everyone he encounters. The fact that this is also based on a true story makes it all the more emotional and leaves you with a heavy heart.
