The Tattooist of Auschwitz is based on the tue love story of Lale and Gita who managed, not only to both escape their horrors of Auschwitz but also keep their love for one another alive, against horrific odds.
The simply written book juxtaposes against the horrors of Auschwitz and the subsequent torture that both Lale and Gita endured, leaving the reader longing for their love to be allowed to truly bloom and prosper.
I managed to read this book extremely quickly, as it is simply impossible to put down. I also liked how the book was spilt into accounts all tying together to create a true love story, whilst also paying respect to the horrifying persecution they had become subjected to.
Even though, this is a deeply sad novel it has been written so sensitively that the love manages to shine on through
