As always I will start with the cover. It captures the subject instantly with the use of the blue and white stripes, echoing that of the ‘pyjamas’ worn by the POW. I think it is a very powerful front cover.

It’s hard to put into words how enthralling this novel is. To be put in Lale’s shoes, it is an absolute eye opener and takes you right back to the horrors of places such as Auschwitz. You learn a great deal about his character, which has been heavily researched by Heather Morris, and he seems like such a charming and hard-working man despite all the horrific things he has to endure.

The relationships he builds along the way are also really heartwarming, I bet a friend during those times meant a great deal. His relationship with Cilka in particular always made me smile to myself at how beautiful the pair were.

If you are into your books on Auschwitz and similar, this is an absolute must read! 10/10, 5 Stars, Cannot recommend enough!
