The Tattooist of Auschwitz is a gripping novel based in the Auschwitz concentration camp during the Nazi dictatorship.

The story is based on real-life events and follows two Slovakian Jewish prisoners, Lale and Gita, through their gruesome and harrowing story of strength and love. Both Lale and Gita do what is necessary to survive and power through the inexplicable hardships of life in a concentration camp.

This story really drove home the horrors and struggles of day to day life for those unjustly ripped from their homes and families. There has recently been some criticism about the dramatisation of certain events by Morris however, Lale and Gita’s story has been told in a way that can be understood and respected by those of all ages.

The Tattooist of Auschwitz was unbelievably eye-opening for me and, through telling only one story of the millions of innocent lives decimated by the Nazi regime, has encouraged a huge amount of reflection about the courage of those who experienced this.
