This book follows the story of Lale Sokalov, a Jew taken to work as the tatoweirer at Auschwitz. A job which may just have saved his life. It is a true story which makes it all the more heartbreaking and eye opening at the same time.

The book is excellently written and has you routing for Lale the whole way, as he fights to save his own life, but also does what he can to help his new friends made at the camp, and the woman he has fallen in love with. We see Lale beat the odds on many occasions, while others less fortunate did not. And you can feel his heartbreak when loosing loved ones, and his joy at finding others.

It was a very good read, and I would definitely recommend this book to others.
