I was absorbed into the story of Lale and Gita. I don't normally get emotional when reading books but this pulled on my heart strings.
The fact this is based on a true story is beautiful. The stories of Aushwitz have been told for year but this is such a unique story of two people beating the odds and making the best out of an absolutely horrific situation.
Now don't get me wrong it's not all sunshine and butterflies, the obscenities that Lale had to go through was gruelling, its a life affirming tale of two people who faced the worst kind of hardship and rebuilt themselves and wouldn't let anything stop them.
Obviously the main characters are Lale and Gita, however they made friends with several other prisoners and throughout we are shown the best of humanity despite their extreme suffering.
